About the Author
Nicky Black is a combination of the names of two writers, Nicky Doherty and Julie Blackie. Julie is a scriptwriter and Nicky is an author.
Julie was originally commissioned to write The Prodigal for ITV back in 2000, but despite a series of producers taking it on, it never found a place on our TVs. In 2011 Nicky asked Julie if she would allow her to turn the story into a novel. Julie agreed, and Nicky Black was born.
Our next novel, Tommy Collins, was a movie screenplay written by Julie back in the 90s. Back then it was called ‘Heads’, and we set up a production company in 1997 to get it made, and we had a huge amount of fun making a trailer for it as well as meeting some well dodgy film financiers and ‘producers’ along the way. It didn’t get made either, but thank goodness for Nicky Black, because it is turning into a wonderful novel.
